Comings & Goings . . . Bonnie Steingart, New General Counsel Superintendent Levin named Bonnie Steingart as General Counsel of the Insurance Department on September 9, 1997. Ms. Steingart assumed her duties at the Insurance Department on September 15. Ms. Steingart joins the Department from the law firm of Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson where she was a partner in the Litigation Department. She handled all facets of corporate and securities litigation. She joined the law firm in 1980 and was named a partner in 1987. As pert of her law practices, Ms. Steingart was involved in Securities & Exchange Commission administrative proceedings, white collar cases, tax and trust and estate litigation, and arbitrations. In addition, she advised corporations concerning disclosure and represented underwriters in connection with initial public offerings. She also represented insurance companies and regulators including New York Life, Lloyd's of London, Federal Agricultural Mortgage Corporation, and the New York Superintendent of Banks. Ms. Steingart is on the board of directors of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and is a member of this Legal Referral Committee of the Bar of the City of New York. She received her B.A. from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and her J.D. from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.
